Estrella Vista (3706 San Pablo)

Ths transit-oriented affordable housing community targets large families and is just .7 miles from Oakland’s MacArthur BART station. The $64 million mixed-use project includes a 7000 sq.ft. ground floor commercial space, retreat area for adults, central courtyard with playground for children, and an outdoor sky deck.

Stanford in Redwood City

In 2013, Redwood City approved Stanford University’s ambitious proposal to develop a 35-acre satellite campus seven miles from Palo Alto. Over the next 30 years, 13 buildings totaling 1.5 million square feet will be developed for administrative offices, research and development, and medical clinic space. The Master Plan includes a day care center, fitness center, restaurants, courtyards, green space and a central unifying plaza. Among other public benefits, Stanford will provide entrepreneurial boot camps and management training programs for Redwood City staff and residents.

San Anselmo Strawbale Development

Among the first of its kind, this small residential development in Marin County features six modest strawbale homes ranging from 1200-1500 sq.ft. on a 10.6 acre parcel wth 9 acres preserved as open space. It's the culmination of 45 years of uncertainty for the land and seems to be an ideal end result for property neighbors as well as the county. Beyond Efficiency was retained to design mechanical and plumbing systems that are appropriate for the super-efficient low-load homes.

Teton County Courthouse

According to the Teton County Internal Sustainability Strategy's Baseline Sustainability Inventory Report, Teton County buildings currently contribute more than 70% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from County operations. The second recommended action from the Strategy's Implementation Plan was to conduct energy audits for the Teton County Recreation Center and Teton County Courthouse, which are the two highest energy-using County facilities.

Esalen Institute

Given the oceanside location of Esalen, high levels of insulation, and passive solar orientation, these units have very low heating demands and aren't expected to have cooling concerns. To align with the client's goals for low first cost and systems simplicity, we designed the mechanical systems to include electric resistance baseboard radiators paired with through-the-wall (ductless) heat recovery ventilators (HRVs).

Construction was completed in the fall of 2017.

Monterey Market

A North Berkeley institution founded in 1961, Monterey Market is a two-generation, family-run market that supports local farmers and the community, providing fresh in-season organic produce along with other staples. Built in the 1940s, the Monterey Market building had undergone minimal improvements over the decades.

Marina Plaza

Marina Plaza will be a new mixed-use development with a public plaza, boutique hotel, multi-family housing, restaurant and retail spaces on 5.16 acres of land. The site currently houses a typical suburban strip mall with an anchor grocery store surrounded by retail spaces and extensive surface parking. The site’s owner of thirty years wants to update and optimize the site by replacing it with an inclusive mixed-use, community-centered development.

Telluride Residence

At an elevation of 8750' and winter design temperature of -16 degrees F, the historic mountain mining town of Telluride, Colorado can be cold! Beyond Efficiency was brought on board for its cold-climate expertise and provided buiding envelope advising and detailing, mechanical engineering, and guidance in surpassing Telluride's energy efficiency requirements for the new single-family home. The project was completed in the fall of 2016.

Eddy + Taylor Family Housing

Eddy + Taylor Apartments is a half-acre-urban infill project that transforms an existing surface parking lot into a new 8-story, high density building with 113 affordable units for families in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco. As a transit-oriented development with easy access to public transportation and community amenities, the project offers secured bicycle parking and no car parking.
