More than 40% better than Title 24
When construction was just about to begin for the South Bay's first cohousing project, Beyond Effiency was engaged to complete a detailed plan review to comment on energy-related aspects of the plans. We provided a detailed matrix of comments and recommendations, including suggestions for improving a significant thermal bridge at the edge of an elevated post-tensioned podium slab. We also advised on window glazing specifications, exterior shading, and insulation assemblies and performance requirements. We maintained an active role throughout construction and completed numerous site visits to review and approve pre-insulation air sealing prep work as well as insulation installation quality.
As of early 2015, more than half of the residents have moved into their new homes. One new resident stated that "the insulation is so good that very little heat was required even during the coldest nights in December and January".
